Why Japanese?
Hi all!
My fascination in Japanese culture and language went through some different phases and subjects, from Japanese manga, TV drama, to eventually movies and literature. And this general interest--vague at first, but much more compelling as I began to dive in--eventually evolved into a yearning to be able to speak and write in this language, so that perhaps one day I may read Japanese fiction, poetry, and literary manuscripts at ease, without the aide (and disruption) of translation.
Naturally, as a graduate student studying English and American literature, I'm mostly attracted to the literary aspect of the language, and I'd love to read authors like Osamu Dazai, Haruki Murakami, and Mishima Yukio as they were originally written in Japanese.
In addition, I'm a big fan of Japanese films! Some of my favorite directors are Yasujiro Ozu, Shunji Iwai, Hirokazu Koreeda, and Naomi Kawase.
Lastly, to this day I religiously follow the newest weekly updates of One Piece, and two of the Japanese shows that I recently finished are Code Blue Part III, and One Million Yen Women.

グアンさんはすごい！いろんなほんをよみましたね！さすがぶんがくせんこうのだいがくいんせい。わたしは、えいがをあんまりみませんです。でも、アニメをよくみます。かるいアニメがすきです。さいきんみているのは、「にちじょう」です。ちょっとびみょうなはなしですが、けっこうおもしろいです。

Delete「コードーブルー」はおもしろいですか？みてみたかったなのにじかんがありませんでした。とにかく、アニメのえいがをみました。「言の葉の庭」(ことのはのにわ）はけっこいいです。深海真（しんかいまこと）のえいがはいつもいいとおもう。
